According to Brindley Group, the 10 best motorway services all have an average score of at least four out of five. They looked at more than 100 service stations across 29 different motorways throughout the country and averaged scores from three review sites.

It found that the Tebay services on the M6 between J38 and J39 was the best motorway service station in the UK.

The Westmorland-owned service station had an average score of 4.24 out of five.

It comes equipped with a café, farm shop, a butcher and cheese counter and even a barbecue shed, although it is weather dependent.

For drivers worried about parking, the “absolutely lovely” station boasts a caravan park, Tesla supercharger and motorists get the first three hours free for all vehicles.

In second place is the Extra Beaconsfield services on the M40 at J2.

It averaged a score of 4.18 thanks to the plethora of catering facilities inside, including a Pizza Express, El Mexicana and even a Wetherspoons pub.

One motorist commented on the services saying: “Facilities are brilliant and there’s a wide range of retail and food options.”

The Gretna services on the A74(M) between J21 and J22 came in third place with a score of 4.15, just narrowly missing out on second place.

It is operated by Welcome Break and is situated near Gretna Green on the border of Scotland and England.

It houses a Starbucks, Waitrose and Harry Ramsden’s and provides two free hours of parking for visitors.

The services are also well equipped for electric vehicles with a choice of three different charging points – Electric Highway, IONITY and Tesla Supercharger.

Sitting just 254 miles away is the Westmorland-operated Gloucester services on the M5, which received an average score of 4.07.
