London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone was expanded last month to include most of London, a size 18 times larger than the original ULEZ introduced in 2018. It is estimated that as many as 35,000 vans and 3,000 trucks driving into London every day do not currently meet the required Euro 6 emissions standard and will be liable for the expanded ULEZ charges.

For many fleets and delivery drivers, their job may require them to enter the ULEZ zone late at night and leave in the early hours of the morning.

In this case, they would be required to pay two separate ULEZ charges.

This comes at a time when petrol and diesel prices have reached their highest ever level with both coming in at over 146p per litre.

Rideshur is working with fleets to try and mitigate the rising costs by using AI-driven technology to lower insurance premiums.

Mark Musson, CEO of Humn, says Rideshur is helping fleet managers operate more efficiently, especially with the expansion of the ULEZ and rising fuel prices.

Speaking with Express.co.uk, he said: “We implemented a new approach to fleet insurance pricing, changing the 20-year-old product for the good.

“The concept itself is fairly simple. Premiums are evenly distributed across the entire fleet, however, risk is concentrated in around 20 percent of drivers.

“This didn’t seem fair, so our hypothesis three years ago was that we could understand the real-time exposure for each individual vehicle in the fleet, and this gave us pricing powers to be able to re-distribute the premium more fairly.

“We quickly realised that without active management, the price would not change, so we built risk management tools that give our fleet customers superpowers.

“Now they are able to cut through all of the noise and take the very few corrective actions necessary with the riskiest drivers, reduce exposure, and therefore reduce the cost of insuring that exposure.

“We are agnostic to the source of data, but premiums are calculated using data.

“We will work with an existing telematics solution already installed in a fleet, recommend or install our own preferred solution or even source the data directly from vehicles where connected data capabilities are enabled.
