Caravan owners with tracking tools installed can enjoy reduced premiums and an impressive recovery rate which should encourage drivers to take up the tools. Experts at Trackershop said motorhomes were more vulnerable” than other types of vehicles as they are often left unattended.

They said: “For one, trackers are often an insurance requirement and a number of insurance companies will insist on an approved tracker, especially on high-value models.

“They can also reduce insurance premiums.

“Perhaps the most compelling reason to install a tracker is that vehicles fitted with a device have a 95 percent recovery rate.

“[This is] compared to those without which are extremely difficult to trace and recover.

“Motorhome trackers provide high-level security with 24/7 tracking and instant theft alerts on all tracking devices.

“Motorhomes are more vulnerable than other types of vehicles, as they can be left unattended for several months at any time.

“A tracker will alert owners to potential theft and gain Police support wherever it is.”

Experts at Trackershop said insurance companies will usually require drivers to have a Thatcham approved hard-wired tracker installed.

This will be placed into the vehicle’s electrics and will be running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This means there is no need to change the tracker or make alterations once it is installed.

However, experts warn portable trackers are “becoming a popular option” and can be “concealed anywhere”.

This has the added bonus of concealment meaning it will be pretty much impossible for thieves to find.
