The UK is bracing itself for yet another heatwave during the bank holiday weekend. The Met Office predicts that Britain could be hotter than Mexico at some points next week. And with fuel prices still remaining high, motorists will try everything in their power to cool their cars down without relying too much on petrol and diesel draining air con.

The latest RAC Fuel Watch indicates that drivers will have to pay 170.97p per litre of unleaded and 182.59p per litre of diesel on average.

And, considering the fact that using air con in cars can increase fuel consumption by 10 percent, many drivers will be reluctant to use it.

However, there are several tricks that motorists can use to cool their cars down while saving money on fuel.

A TikTok containing one of those hacks has recently gone viral.

The video was uploaded to TikTok on the Driving Test Success channel and has been watched nearly 200,000 times.

A caption on the video read: “Testing the TikTok window hack,” and the title of the video was ”Did you know this was a thing?”

The footage showed somebody holding the car keys to a Ford Fiesta which is parked in front of them.

A voiceover said: “So I heard this thing on TikTok where you unlock, lock, unlock and hold down the unlock, and it puts your windows down.”

The person in the video followed this procedure and the windows on the Fiesta rolled down automatically.

In fact, this is a common feature on newer cars with remote key fobs.

Drivers do not need to lock or unlock the car first, they can simply hold the unlock button on the key and the windows will roll down.

Opening windows before starting a journey instantly cools the car down meaning that the air con does not have to work harder than it needs to.

This in turn saves money as less fuel is being used.

Many people took to the comments section to express their amazement.

One person said: “Just tested this and it works.”

Another added: “Omg I had to do it and it works dude.”

Others, however, argued that the hack is not as new as people think.

@offroadchick20 said: “It’s global closing most cars have it’s nothing new.”

Another user commented: “For real y’all figured out just now?” [SIC]

A third said: “I’ve been doing that for years.”

Drivers have also been reminded that if they are struggling with the cost of fuel towards the end of the summer, they can easily find the cheapest petrol station in their area using petrolprices.com.

After registering on the website, all motorists need to do is put in their postcode and how far they are willing to travel.

The site will then provide drivers with a list of the cheapest petrol stations in their area.

Mobile phone users can also download the app for easy access on the go without registering.
