FIRST LOOK: 2020 Honda City RS 1.0L VTEC Turbo12/02/2019
The all-new Honda City recently made its official launch debut at the Thailand Motor Expo, and is available in four variants – S, V, SV and RS – in the Kingdom. The B-segment sedan has been significantly redesigned inside and out, but the biggest change lies under the bonnet, as it is now powered by a 1.0 litre (998 cc) turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
Said mill is a VTEC Turbo unit that provides 122 PS at 5,500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm, with drive going to the front wheels via a CVT with seven virtual speeds. This is the only powertrain offering for the Thailand market, and ensures the City meets Thailand’s Phase 2 Eco Car regulations, which is stricter in terms of fuel economy and emissions.
In terms of dimensions, the new City is 113 mm longer (4,553 mm) and 53 mm wider (1,748 mm) than its predecessor, but with a 10 mm decrease in height (1,467 mm) and a wheelbase that is 11 mm shorter (2,589 mm).
The new exterior design is also “softer” and less aggressive than its predecessor, while the interior shares some cues from the latest Jazz. A first with the fifth-generation model is the choice of an RS variant, which is the range-topping option in Thailand, priced from 739,000 baht or RM102,061. Standard equipment includes automatic air-conditioning, an eight-inch infotainment system, multi-angle review camera, suede/fabric/leather upholstery, LED headlamps, and more.
This variant is what we’re focusing on in this walk-around video, with our own Jonathan Lee on hand to take you on a tour of the sedan. So, enjoy the video and let us know what you think of the newest iteration of the City in the comments below.
