Jeremy Clarkson praised the car in a special category set up for the Top Gear frontman to give his verdict. The Toyota GR Yaris also picked up the News UK awards for Hot Hatch of the Year, completing a star-studded year for the new model.
Earlier this year, the GR Yaris was named the 2021 Car of the Year and was listed as AutoCar’s Best Affordable Driver’s Car.
Top Gear Magazine rated the model as the Hot Hatch of the Year while AutoExpress called it the Performance Car of the Year.
Parkers said the model was the Best Car for Thrill Seekers at the new Car Awards 2022.
Meanwhile, the vehicle has previously picked up awards for the Northern Car of the Year by the Northern Group of Motoring Writers.
What makes the GR Yaris stand out is the car’s motorsport credentials.
The model really is a race car for the road being developed directly from Toyota’s planned World Rally Championship entry.
The model is fitted with an all-new 1.6 litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, the largest currently in production.
This produces a maximum output of 257bhp and a top speed of 142mph.

According to Toyota, the GR Yaris can reach 0-62mph in just 5.5 seconds.
One of the standout features is the car’s new MacPherson strut and double-wishbone suspension system.
Toyota claims this helps “deliver outstanding traction and control” on some of the “most demanding surfaces”.
They said the suspension was tuned by the Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team for extra performance.
