Tesla pick-up to be unveiled in three months – Musk07/31/2019
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has taken to his favourite medium, Twitter, to reveal that the brand’s all-electric pick-up truck will be making its global reveal in two to three months’ time. “We’re close, but the magic is in the final details. Maybe 2 to 3 months,” Musk said in response to a query.
For those who are excited, the South African billionaire previously said that prices for the pick-up will begin at under US$50,000 (RM208k), and it will outperform the industry’s best-selling vehicle, the Ford F series.
“It’s going to look pretty sci-fi. That means it’s not going to be for everyone. It’s going to be on a truck that’s more capable than other trucks. The goal is to be a better truck than an F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality, and be a better sports car than a standard [Porsche] 911,” he recently said in a podcast.
To back that claim, Musk again revealed on Twitter that the pick-up truck will get a dual-motor all-wheel drive system as standard, including a suspension that adjusts dynamically for load and “crazy torque.” The pick-up will also feature power outlets for heavy-duty, 240-volt power tools, and boasts a driving range of up to 805 km or more.
Musk took another wild swing by announcing that the pick-up would have a 300,000-pound (136,078 kg) towing capacity, although how Tesla plans to achieve that is anyone’s guess at the moment. Figures aside, it seems like the Tesla pick-up is happening for real. Musk once said he was “dying to build it [the pick-up]” and has had the core design and engineering elements in his mind for almost five years. Anyone keen?
