The most popular car on dating apps revealed – could your vehicle find you love?10/09/2019
Audi topped the poll of vehicles most likely to catch a partners attention when swiping as 6.37 percent backed the German icon. BMW came a close second with 5.97 percent of romantics saying it would be the car that most caught their eye. Porsche and Mercedes closely followed with expensive British marquee Jaguar rounding out the top ten. Electric car firm Tesla was sixth on the list which was made up of some of the most lucrative and expensive sportscars on the market.
Kia was revealed as the least attractive car make closely follow by Volvo, Citroen and Nissan.
The hottest car models were also revealed in the survey, with motorists opting for the super-rich Aston Martin Vanquish.
Audi’s lucrative R8 Spyder was chosen by seven percent of respondents while the Ford Mustang and Jaguar F type Coupe were also ranked highly among those surveyed.
The survey claims one in five Britons have previously dated someone purely because they had a nice car.
A further one in four agreed having a nice car makes someone instantly more attractive.
In a social experiment, carwow decided to post images of volunteers alongside lucrative vehicles and ordinary road cars before asking volunteers to rank images in order of attractiveness.
The experiment aimed to find out whether the car made a massive difference to how volunteers rated each person.
They scored results out of 10 for each car make and shockingly concluded high-end and high-price cars topped the poll.
Images featuring a Range Rover Sport and Maserati Ghibli scored more swipes than low range models such as the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Micra.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Vix Leyton, who commissioned the study for carwow, said: “Whilst it’s a truth universally acknowledged that online dating is initially driven by aesthetics, considering the majority of Brits who said they wouldn’t be swayed by a flash car in the poll, the study itself suggested something different.
“You can game your profile a bit to be more swipeable with some engineering of your surroundings. Obviously finding lasting love is far more complicated than this, but it was interesting to see how easily people can be influenced by a car in shot, whether for the implications on their earnings, or as a shorthand for the type of person they are.”
“The results of the experiment, however, tell a very different story, with the flashier, more expensive cars much more likely to secure a higher swipe rate.”
A further study by carwow revealed a total of 40 percent of respondents said they would be more likely to swipe right on someone with a nice car.
One in five respondents also revealed they have used a picture of themselves in front of a nice car in the past to attract a partner online.
Relationship expert Tracey Cox admitted she wasn’t surprised to see an increase of attractiveness with the inclusion of a flashy car.
She added: “A flashy car is also an indicator that someone likes attention and wants to be seen and admired and envied; Narcissists are known to like showy cars.”
