Top 5 Reviews and Videos of the Week: Honda Civic Steps Up, Fun Comes First

01/26/2020

Last week, Cars.com readers flocked to read our review of one venerable Honda nameplate, the Pilot SUV. This week, our readers have flocked to another — and in a surprising twist, it isn’t an SUV: Topping our most read reviews of this past week is our take on the 2020 Honda Civic hatchback, which gets some styling updates and convenience features added.

Reviewer Jennifer Geiger notes that while the Civic hatch has a few minor drawbacks (Display Audio with no tuning knob, dated graphics and climate controls, a lackluster Eco mode), there are plenty more good reasons people keep coming back for more of Honda’s popular compact car.

“It’s a comfortable, composed, decently peppy cruiser,” Geiger says in her report, adding that fuel economy for the class is good, but not at the expense of the driving experience. “It stands out for its combination of agility and composure, with a nimbleness around corners and a ride that’s firm but never uncomfortable.”

That’s not all: Safety systems are robust, both rear-seat headroom and legroom are competitive, small-items storage is abundant — and cargo room, a critical aspect of the hatchback body style — “is plentiful.”

Geiger writes: “Hatchback Sport models offer 22.6 cubic feet of space — more than the Mazda3, Subaru Impreza and Toyota Corolla hatchbacks.”

A more thorough breakdown is available at the top of the order for reviews below. Beyond that, there was some upheaval from last week: Though interest in the brand-new 2020 Mazda CX-30 and enthusiast-minded Dodge Charger Scat Pack and Hellcat Widebody remains high enough for our respective reviews to come in at Nos. 2 and 3 this week, joining the list are two fresh reviews on the Ford Super Duty F-250/F-350 and our first drive of the brand-new 2020 Hyundai Venue to round out the top five.

On the video front, meanwhile, we unveiled this week that our Most Fun-to-Drive Car of the Year award went to the 2020 Hyundai Veloster N. What about its driving experience made it stand out to us? Find out in our most watched video of the week. Our initial thoughts on the 2020 Land Rover Defender, the reveal of our 2020 Luxury Car of the Year, Dodge Challenger drag-strip testing and the new Chevrolet Corvette C8 round out the list.
