He urged drivers to not go “bowling into a project that has challenges” which you’re unable to handle. Instead, he has recommended classic car owners find a car which “suits your skillset” to get the most from the vehicle.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “I would always say to people find something that suits your strengths

“If you’re a welder and you’ve got all that kit at home, rust and corrosion are not going to be an issue on bodywork.

“You can cut panels out and you can fabricate and manufacture new ones and that’s easy for you.

“If you’re not skilled in that side of things but your much more mechanically minded, find something that’s going to suit your skillset.

“That’s really the biggest tool, don’t go bowling into a project that has challenges outside of your remit.

“By all means go out of your comfort zone, I’m all for that, challenge yourself.

“But if you know there are certain things you either don’t have the kit to do it, the skills to do, perhaps that one is not for you.”

His comments come as demand for classic cars has surged as drivers splash out on lockdown savings.

He said each historic model comes with certain challenges” which “can be different” based on each particular model.
