Porsche globally and virtually unveiled the production version of the Taycan Cross Turismo. The German sportscar maker says the new car “draws on the strengths of its sport sedan sibling.

“This means that it shares its focus on performance, on providing a sure-footed, fun and exciting driving experience as well as refinement and comfort when required while defining its own place in the market, as every Porsche strives to do,” Porsche said. It also said the Cross Turismo adds to the mix with a bit more ground clearance and more cargo capacity, “making it more adept when the conditions are challenging and more versatile.” Rest assured, Porsche says, the car “still remains a Porsche at its core.”

The crossover version is launching with four variants: 4 Cross Turismo, 4S Cross Turismo, Turbo Cross Turismo, and Turbo S Cross Turismo. They all have dual-motor all-wheel drive, a two-speed rear transmission, air suspension with adaptive management and Performance Battery Plus and its 800-volt battery architecture. They all also share adaptive aerodynamics, a panoramic glass roof, and Porsche’s PCM system putting navigation, entertainment and charging systems at your fingertips. Horsepower figures range from 375 hp to 616 hp.

Clearly the Cross Turismo’s longer, flatter roofline is the major differentiator from the sedan, and gives front-seat occupants 0.35 inches more room and rear-seat occupants 3.62 inches of additional headroom. There’s more cargo space, too, of course, with up to 15.7 cubic feet for the 4 and 4S and 14.3 cubic feet for the Turbo and Turbo S, up to 42.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Other differences include unique rocker panels, front and rear fascia, and 0.78-inch higher ride height. An Off Road Design Package adds body cladding and raises the ride height an additional 0.39 inches.

No, the Taycan Cross Turismo won’t tackle the Rubicon but there is a Gravel mode that raises the ride height another 0.39 inches and sets suspension firmness, traction and stability control, and the torque management system to maximize grip over loose surfaces, like mud, sand, and gravel. On pavement the Turbo S can hit 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, just 0.1 seconds slower than the sedan. The Turbo does it in 3.1 seconds, 4S in 3.9 seconds and the 4 in 4.8 seconds.

The Cross Turismos share the sedan’s colors and trims, and the Cross Turismos get some specific items such as the Off Road Design Package and 20-inch Off Road Design and 21-inch Cross Turismo Design wheels. Add it all up and the eight-member Taycan family can be had in more than 21,000 combinations, and that’s just wheel choice, exterior color, and interior selection. Dig deeper into the configurator and you’ll find things like deviated stitching, various seat types, and several tech options.

The Cross Turismo comes with three years of Porsche Connect, including wireless Apple CarPlay, Function on Demand, Plug and Charge capabilities, Apple Music, and over the air updates. Additionally, three-years of free Electrify America charging is also standard.

Options include adaptive cruise control, active lane keep, head-up display, 14-way seats with massage and Bose and Burmester audio systems. The cars go on sale this summer starting at $92,250 including delivery. Porsche says EPA range figures will be announced closer to launch.

Porsche is also launching two electric bicycles along with the Cross Turismo. The eBike Sport is street-oriented and has a full-suspension carbon-fiber frame, Magura brakes, Shimano drivetrain, and Supernova lighting. For dirt biking, the eBike Cross features Magura MT brakes, hydraulically adjustable Crankbrothers seat post for quick seat height changes, and a Shimano trip computer. Both bikes ride on carbon wheels inspired by the roofline of the Taycan, will come in three sizes and be available by spring of 2021 through your Porsche dealer.
