Gosia Rdest leads W Series practice in Germany
07/05/2019With just two-points to her name from the three races to date Rdest could be staring down the barrel of a big return come Saturday.
Gosia Rdest was the surprise pacesetter in W Series practice for round four of the championship at the Norisring in Germany Friday.
The race marks the start of the second half of the 2019 season but Rdest was not the driver expected to top the practice. On the relatively simple Norisring layout however, the 26-year-old managed to lead a close session. With just two-points to her name from the three races to date Rdest could be staring down the barrel of a big return come Saturday.
“I’m very happy. Very happy and very satisfied,” said Rdest. “It’s my first big result here in W Series and in single seaters as it’s my first year in F3. I had some experience in F4 back in 2014.
“Definitely, the track is not too complicated because there are only four corners, and I think that is working for me here where single seater experience is not as important because we don’t have many quick corners where you need to feel aero and need to rely on that. That’s the part that I’m still working on and learning how to use the car in quick corners.”
Nine-tenths separated the entire field but just one-hundredth separated the top two. Winner of the race in Zolder and second in the overall standings, Beitske Visser, put in a late effort to put herself in the mix.
“I came into the season wanting to fight for victory, but it’s been very close, and it’s been hard work,” said Visser. “It’s going good so far, I’m happy with my season so far. I was a bit unlucky in Hockenheim but other than that it’s been good.
Points leader Jamie Chadwick is only four-hundredths off top spot.
