NASCAR Euro iRacing Series to Pay Points Toward Real Season

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series championship will be partially decided by what takes place during late spring/summer on iRacing.

Series promoter Team FJ launched the EuroNASCAR Esports Series this week. The league will feature real life teams and drivers on Tuesday nights with digital versions of the Cup Series car on a mixed schedule of European and American tracks.

The schedule will feature eight events, with the last three serving as the double-points playoff rounds.

A press release about the league did not detail how the digital results would be incorporated into the real-world championship once it begins in the aftermath of the current coronavirus shutdown.

The press release reads: “The best NASCAR Whelen Euro Series drivers will battle for this new eSports title and at the same time will score points for the real life NASCAR Whelen Euro Series teams championship, making EuroNASCAR Esports Series the first sim racing series to impact a real life international racing championship.”

The promotional group intends to invite “some famous sim racers” and “real life guest stars” to the roster over the next two months.

The virtual season will begin with a nonpoints exhibition race on April 21 at the Daytona International Speedway road course. The esports points championship season will begin the week after on April 28 at the legendary Brands Hatch Circuit.

Circuit Zolder will also represent the real life Euro schedule on the iRacing platform. American tracks like Watkins Glen, the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course will also be featured.

All the EuroNASCAR Esports Series events will be broadcast on the EuroNASCAR YouTube, Facebook and Twitch channels.

The complete entry list and schedule will be revealed at a later date.
