Six reasons you must be at Le Mans Classic 2022

Six reasons you must be at Le Mans Classic 2022

There hasn't been a Le Mans Classic since 2018; this year's promises to be the best yet

Even though the Le Mans Classic is usually a bi-annual event, I’m confident many would like to see it run annually – it really is as good as you’ve heard, if not better. Excitement for 2022 is higher than ever, given 2020 was cancelled for obvious reasons. It means four long years have passed since the last Classic, with 2022’s weekend – taking place from June 30th to July 3rd – set to remind all why the event is so special. Here’s what to look forward to…

1. The best historic racing

There’ll be six grids and 600 cars competing at Le Mans, spanning 1923 to 1981, with support races including Group C, Porsche Classic Race Le Mans, Endurance Racing Legends and the Jaguar Classic Challenge. Hearing these cars flat out in person and watching them drive at night really is an unforgettable experience. They really don’t make race cars like they used to! Check out the timetable of action on circuit here.

2. Access to the paddocks

Perhaps one of the best features of the Le Mans Classic is the access to the paddocks, which you can only dream of at most modern race weekends. Being able to get up close to the cars and watch the mechanics work on them is always a highlight of the weekend, so make sure you’ve got a paddock pass. Earplugs may be required.

3. The amazing classic car show

Need more old cars? Of course you do! On top of the 600 that race over the Classic weekend, Le Mans plays host to Europe’s largest gathering of roadgoing classics, with more than 8,000 cars exhibited by clubs and private car owners. If you have an eligible car, you can book your spot in the PistonHeads club parking area through our camping partner 1st Tickets here. Any PH member with an eligible car can park in our club parking area, however spaces will be prioritised for those taking part in the parade laps.

4. Drive the actual Le Mans circuit

There aren’t many car nuts who would pass up the chance to drive the incredible eight-and-a-bit miles of the La Sarthe track, and Le Mans Classic gives fans that opportunity. Yes, really – it’s not just the pro drivers that take it on. You might just be going a bit slower…

If you have an eligible car, you can join the lucky few for at least two laps behind a pace car. Sessions are approximately 20 minutes – book yours for £205 through our camping partner 1st Tickets here.

5. Awesome atmosphere

No matter what form of motorsport you’re into, there’s nowhere quite like the home of endurance racing. Dress up and take yourself back in time with more than 100,000 fellow fans, wandering around the village, paddocks, and miles of footpaths around the circuit. It’s a very special experience like no other.

6. Camping with PH

The best place to stay for the Le Mans Classic (we reckon so, at least) is the PistonHeads Bleu Nord private campsite with our longstanding partner 1st Tickets. Join us for a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, in our secure campsite with packages starting from £410 per person. Book yours today!
