The Dodge Charger Hellcat Octane Edition Is a Blacked-Out Doom Sled

If you had to guess what Dodge had done to the Charger SRT Hellcat to create the Octane Edition, you might go with “more power.” But no. The 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Octane Edition still makes 717 horsepower, just like the regular Hellcat. Instead, it’s a blacked-out special edition (that’s, uh, also available in white).

Regardless of whether you order the black or white version, every Octane Edition gets twin satin-black racing stripes, blacked-out badging, a black decklid spoiler, black 20-inch wheels from the Challenger Scat Pack 1320, a Brembo brake package—with red calipers—performance seats with houndstooth inserts that for some reason Dodge doesn’t show you, red seatbelts, and several black interior pieces.

“In the world of muscle cars, limited editions are valued by enthusiasts for their uniqueness and collectability, both today and in the future,” said Tom Sacoman, FCA’s head of passenger-car brands, in a statement. “The 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Octane Edition is the newest factory-custom model designed for our performance customers who want to stand apart from the pack.”

Based on the photos Dodge provided, we have to admit the Octane Edition looks pretty cool. But is it worth $1,495 more than a regular black Hellcat? That probably depends on how much you like the wheels, and how much you value their knurled bead seats that Dodge designed to minimize tire slip under hard acceleration. With 717 horses on tap, that may be even more beneficial than it is on the 1320. If the Octane Edition has your attention, Dodge is taking orders now, with the first cars expected to land on dealer lots this fall.
