F1 Champ Lewis Hamilton Will Race in Abu Dhabi12/10/2020
Lewis Hamilton’s 2020 Formula 1 season is not over, after all.
Hamilton, who’s already clinched the 2020 F1 Drivers’ Championship and his Mercedes team has already clinched the F1 Constructors’ Championship, has been cleared to return to race in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Dec. 13.
Hamilton missed last week’s Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain following a positive COVID-19 test on Nov. 30. He was replaced by Williams F1’s George Russell in Bahrain, where Russell finished ninth after leading 59 or 87 laps.
Russell will return to Williams for Sunday’s race. That move will mean Jack Aitken, who finished 16th at the Sakhir Grand Prix, will not be on this week’s grid for Williams.
Mercedes made the announcement on the official Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Twitter on Thursday.
Hamilton, who earlier this year won his seventh F1 championship, enters Sunday’s finale with a series-record 95 career victories. He’s won 11 races in his 15 starts this season. The 11 wins in a season ties his career high.
