GT Sport's Christmas Update Arrives Next Week, With Seven New Cars

Polyphony Digital will give us an early Christmas present next week, in the shape of a brand new GT Sport game update — the third in four weeks. However, unlike the bug fix update from earlier in the month, this one is set to bring us plenty of new content.

As is now tradition, studio director Kazunori Yamauchi revealed the update by way of a silhouette teaser Tweet. Interestingly, the Tweet shows seven new cars, making this the most densely packed car update since January’s v1.32.

The Tweet reads as follows:

来週、クリスマス・アップデート来ます。Christmas Update coming next week. #GTSport

As you’ll spot from the full-size image, the car selection here seems particularly eclectic. The top row appears to contain an all-new car to the series, in the shape of the 2017 Ford GT, and a returning classic with the Volkswagen Golf I GTI from 1976. Down on the bottom there looks to be a 993-generation Porsche 911 GT2, although the recent return of the Ruf brand may mean it’s a BTR2. Opinion is split on the final car, which appears to be a Toyota Crown.

It’s the middle row that’s stirring up the most reaction though, with all three appearing to have police light bars. The car on the left seems to be another Toyota Crown, as used by police departments in Japan, while over on the right there’s a Dodge Charger, complete with US-style bull bars and spot lights. Sitting in the middle is a Renault Megane RS, occasionally used in European police forces.

Thanks to a gap in the FIA schedule late in the month, we’re also expecting another circuit in this update. That’s likely to be Laguna Seca, as recently used in the FIA GT Sport World Finals in Monaco. We’d also expect the Toyota Supra Gr.4 to become available to players, after it’s started to appear among AI cars. That’s due to arrive as a prize for a survey back in October.

We’ll have to wait until later in the week to get confirmation of the date for the update and the content within. Stay tuned to GTPlanet for more information as we get it.
