Jaime Alguersuari not a fan of 'unfriendly' boss Christian Horner06/15/2021
Ex-Red Bull driver, Jaime Alguersuari, has revealed he did not have a good rapport with team boss Christian Horner, whom he found to be not “very friendly”.
The Spaniard has already spoken of the “anger and rejection” he felt after being axed by the Red Bull team and how he left Formula 1 with an “open wound” that needed to heal before he considered racing again.
But, in another interview, this time with Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Alguersuari has also lifted the lid on his working relationship with Horner and aerodynamic guru Adrian Newey.
Jaime Alguersuari on not being able to watch #F1 after losing his seat:
“It was a time when I felt anger and rejection towards Formula 1, towards Helmut Marko, towards Red Bull."

“There wasn’t,” Alguersuari said when asked what the relationship was like with Horner.
“Neither with him nor with Adrian Newey.
“Even on the track, Christian wasn’t a very friendly guy. It’s also partly due to the fact that since 2010 we had been building our cars entirely in Faenza, where I lived at the time.
“We had a completely Made in Italy chassis. We only went to Milton Keynes to train on the simulator.”
Alguersuari and team-mate Sebastien Buemi were both not retained by Red Bull after the end of the 2011 season and was replaced at junior team Toro Rosso by Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne.
It is a decision that still mystifies him.
“I still can’t understand how it happened,” he added.
“I’d finished ahead of my team-mate Sébastien Buemi, I even cancelled a contract with Lotus in Abu Dhabi to be Kimi Raikkonen’s co-driver [Romain Grosjean was chosen in the end].
“The Renault guys told me I had to sign straight away or the offer would have vanished, but I decided to continue with Toro Rosso because there was a good atmosphere around me after the good results of that season.
“In addition, since the Canadian GP we had solved the problem of tyre wear in the race, bringing the STR6 almost always in the top 10.”
