Red Bull played lederhosen prank on Sergio Perez in Austria

Prior to a difficult race in Austria, Sergio Perez was the butt of a joke in the Red Bull garage, involving some of the local clothing…

The Austrian Grand Prix was the 200th race start in Formula 1 for the popular Mexican, who was told by his team that everyone would be wearing lederhosen in honour of the team’s home race in Spielberg – which, in fairness, has been done before by Red Bull.

Of course, when he turned up, no-one else was wearing the traditional Austrian attire – much to Perez’s chagrin.

Red Bull merchandise is available to purchase now via the official Formula 1 store

“It was a little bit of a prank by my team, but I’ll make sure I get them back!” He vowed. “I always saw the Red Bull drivers wearing it, so I thought it was pretty normal.”

This was added to by the team when a musical duo followed the Mexican around the paddock with an accordion and double bass, as he made his way back to the garage.

Perez, who looks set to be on his way to earning a new deal at Red Bull for next season, is no stranger to being a prankster himself in the past, however.

On the last lap of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix, when Perez in his Sauber had risen from P17 on the grid to P8 on the road, he pretended his car was losing power as he ran up to the finish line – catching his team unaware and causing a frantic reaction from his engineer at the time…

He followed this up in 2015 by tweeting that he was “kidnapping” Lewis Hamilton’s dog, Roscoe – although the seven-time World Champion was able to joke at the Mexican’s expense in his preparations for the season ahead earlier this year.
