'Sorry Lando Norris, these things happen in racing'
08/06/2019McLaren’s pit crew have held their hands up and apologised to Lando Norris after costing him a couple of places at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Woking-based squad enjoyed a double points finish in the final race before the summer break as Carlos Sainz took the chequered flag in fifth place while Norris finished P9.
However, it could have been much better for the Woking squad had the Brit not been dealt a bad hand in the pits as there was a problem with the wheelgun and it meant he dropped from P6 to P8. To add insult to injury, Valtteri Bottas later passed him.
McLaren F1 boss Andreas Seidl explained how things went awry in the pits and apologised to rookie Norris.
“Unfortunately we had an issue with the left rear wheelgun which caused a delay in the tyre change,” he. “In the end that lost him two positions, plus allowed Bottas to get close to him in the race and get him as well.
“Sorry from our side to Lando that he was unlucky, because in terms of driving he pulled off a great performance. But these things happen in racing.”
